Process for Surrendering an Animal

There is a myriad of reasons why people need to surrender their pets and if the need arises that you have to surrender, do not leave it to the last minute to arrange it as it can take some time to find a place in care. If you have no other options for rehoming your pet, then please follow the instructions below.

Please be honest and accurate with the information you provide as this is used to aid us in determining if we are presently able to take your pet. We would appreciate full disclosure – we are willing to take on animals with medical or behavioural issues, however we need to be aware of them to determine if we are able to deal with their issues.

  • Complete the Surrender Form.
  • Completing a surrender form does not mean we will automatically be able to help. Continue to look for alternatives - places are limited and we sadly can not help every animal.
  • You must be able to produce some form of proof of ownership to ensure that you have a legal right to surrender your pet
  • If your pet has been microchipped, locate the original micro-chip form as this has the necessary notification on it regarding "Change of Ownership" which can be completed at the time of surrender. The microchip must be registered to you for you to legally surrender him/her.
  • Any relevant paperwork for your pet will also be required, eg desexing certificate and vaccination records. All dogs must be desexed prior to surrender
  • After appraisal of the Surrender Form and if your pet is to be accepted, arrangements will be made for the actual surrender to take place. At the time of surrender, you will be required to sign a "Surrender Contract" which is a legally binding contract.

Please take 3 good quality, clear photographs of your pet and email them to us at [email protected] with your name, and the animal's name in the subject of the email

Is your pet a companion or working dog?
Is your pet usually outside or inside?
How sociable is your dog (please tick all that are relevant)
Has your dog lived on acreage or in town
Has your dog been desexed, vaccinated, on heartworm medication, and microchipped*
Please tick any that apply..

Thank you for contacting us. We are sorry that you are in the situation of considering surrendering your dog. As these dogs are more specific with their needs and likes, they are assessed individually and can take weeks or months to show us what situation they would be most suited to. We keep the dog with us and incur the cost of it's care and vetting during it's time with us, and as it is partially funded by our adoption fees, but this typically does not cover all of our expenses during the year. Please note: A surrender fee may be incurred at time of surrender to help us cover the costs of caring for your dog.
